WhistlePig combined eleven barrels of the 2021 Boss Hog VIII (LapuLapu’s Pacific) with the four barrels they had originally shipped to Andalusia, Spain to finish – barrels meant to follow the same route as the lone surviving ship of Magellan’s 1519-1522 expedition. The Spain barrels were lost at sea in spring 2022 before eventually being recovered and shipped back to Vermont. The result is a Canadian-sourced 17-Year Straight Rye Whiskey, double-finished in 7-year-old and 10-year-old small-batch Philippine Rum casks (per the standard LapuLapu’s Pacific protocol) and then rested in Andalusian Spain, bottled at cask strength of 103.5 proof, with a 100% rye mash bill.
